My computer too slow
The first step to repairing a sluggish computer is to verify that your machine is the actual source of the problem. It may not be the fault of your machine the videos that seem to loop indefinitely, and websites that take ages to load. Geek Squad agent Derek Meister believes that many people mistakenly perceive a sluggish device as the problem because it's not really the machine,[ but] the broadband connection. For guidance on how to use Speedtest.net to diagnose a slow connection see "Downloads are taking forever below.
If your PC is the issue, test if there is plenty of free space on the hard drive that houses your operating system. Windows needs room for file development when the system runs.If your hard drive is maxed out, performance suffers. Now is the perfect time to clear some space.
Your next best bet for tackling slow performance is the Microsoft System Configuration tool. When your machine boots up, many applications launch automatically, which can stretch boot time–especially on older, slower PCs. Make a habit of trimming the products for startup. Open the tool, press Windows-R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
The best way to figure out which potential performance-killers you can safely disable is to check the Startup Item and Manufacturer columns.Avoid messing with any of the services and programs that are listed as manufacturer by Microsoft Corporation. Apps like AdobeAAMUpdater, Pando Media Booster, Google Patch,Spotify, and Bootstrapper for the Steam Client is all fair game. Regardless, err on the cautionary side: Do not disable it if you are not sure what the program or service is doing.
Is your best friend when you have issues with the connectivity.
If the speeds seem high, make sure you don't unintentionally download or upload something. Run a speed test to see what your download and upload speeds are — ideally, they should be at least 50 percent of the speed advertised by your Internet service provider, with a latency of less than 100 milliseconds. Many torrent downloading programs run in the background and minimize instead of the taskbar into the system tray.
Check your hardware on network. Network card updates aren't all that common, but if the manufacturer of your card provides a newer driver, download them. Resetting your router and modem might also help with connection issues. Most routers and modems have reset buttons but you can do the same thing by pulling the power cable for a second or two. Do not cut the power for much longer, or reset the hardware to factory defaults.
Got troubles yet? Call your ISP, that can tell you if the problem is at your end. The ISP could reset the Master connection to your home as a last-ditch measure.
machine keeps restarting
Software problems are difficult to diagnose and to fix. First, confirm that you are not only getting the latest wave of Windows updates which can restart your computer automatically during installation. Work then to update all of your critical system drivers. Your motherboard, graphics card, and network card drivers are important.
"Sometimes it can be viruses, sometimes it can be adware, sometimes it can overheat and sometimes it can be as simple as making sure that your video card is updated," says Meister of Geek Squad.
Does your computer make strange noises If you're lucky just give the machine a thorough cleaning.Modern computers have system shutdown protections when a part is overheated, which can cause frequent restarts when running resource-intensive programs or video games.
